Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Designed for the U.S. M1903 Springfield rifle, this heavy cotton canvas case with top flap will work well with almost any rifle up to 46" inches in length. This way they were also able to be used with the M1917 "American Enfield" rifle. This high quality canvas case also has a genuine adjustable carry shoulder strap with steel fittings. The case is marked to R.H. LONG, and is dated 12-18 for December 1918.
Overall this case is in very good condition, especially considering the age and a century of storage. It does show some areas of staining due to water exposure, which may be why there are no maker marks. There are also a few small holes in the canvas, but no major tears or other defects. There is a bit of oxidation around the steel fittings, but nothing major.
Springfield cases in such great condition are very difficult to find on the market today, especially named ones with good research potential! Ready to display along with your WWI U.S. Rifles!
