Original U.S. WWI Kerosene VESTA Trench Lantern by R.E. DIETZ

Item Description

Original Item: One Only. We seldom see U.S. Trench equipment since the time enjoyed by our visiting Colonial cousins was so short having only decided to help in 1917. This however is absolutely terrific!

Made by the R.E. Dietz Company in the U.S, this is one of the VESTA "hi-top" model lamps, introduced in 1907. Standing about 11" tall, the original glass is marked U.S. and DIETZ VESTA, NEW YORK, U.S.A.  After WW1, the VESTA models were shortened to compete with smaller lanterns on the market, and the "hi-top" was replaced by the "lo-top"

In great display condition, the lantern comes painted Olive Drab however there is evidence of rust damage under the paint on the lid. Really impressive, a great display item from the Expeditionary Force of WW1.
