Original U.S. WWI Father 91st AEF and WWII Son 7th Air Force Grouping

Item Description

Original Items: One-of-a-kind grouping. This is the history of a family that served in both world wars. The father CHARLES R. MATTILL SR served in the 91st Division American Expeditionary Force, 348th Field Artillery Band unit from September 1917 until April 20th 1919. A bit less than 26 years later on March 26th 1945, his son CHARLES R. MATTIL JR, a member of the 531st Fighter Squadron, 21st Fighter Group and pilot of P-51 Mustang fighters, would be killed in action in a Banzai Attack on his camp located on Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands.

Contained is this utterly amazing grouping are the following items:

Items of Sergeant CHARLES R. MATTILL SR 91st Division American Expeditionary Force, 348th Field Artillery Band:

• WWI Issue tunic in excellent condition with Sergeant chevrons, Third Army A circle patch on left shoulder, Collar Disc Insignia of Musician Lyre Bandsman Insignia, right shoulder cloth patch of Musician Lyre Bandsman Insignia.
• Overseas cap with Musician Lyre Bandsman Insignia.
• 4 putties (leg wraps).
• Large Photo of the 348th Field Artillery Band.
• Multiple photos of CHARLES R. MATTILL SR in uniform.
• ID Dog Tags.
• Crucifix.
• Binder containing historical documents including, original Honorable Discharge certificate, enlistment certificate, band programs and much more.
• A light box frame containing many of the above mentioned items for easy to display appeal.
