Original U.S. WWI Era M1905 Springfield 16 Inch Rifle Bayonet by S.A. with Incorrect 1917 Enfield Scabbard - Dated 1919

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good U.S. M1905 bayonet dated 1919, originally made before WWI for the M1903 Springfield Rifle. It was then updated and reissued in WWII for the M1 Garand Rifle. This example is paired with an incorrect M1917 Enfield rifle and M97 Trench Shotgun bayonet scabbard. The Garand was designed to take the same blade bayonet as the M1903 Springfield rifle, so at the beginning of the war they were issued with bayonets originally made for those rifles. Later in 1942 to keep up with wartime production, new orders for M1905 bayonets were placed, which had plastic ribbed grips. These were also sometimes fitted to M1905 bayonets made previously that had damage to their wooden grips, however this example still has the original grips.
In 1943, the specification for bayonets was changed to have a 10 inch blade, and many M1905 bayonets were shortened to this length. This bayonet however is still in the original configuration, which is rare to find on the market today. It looks to still have the original WWI Era blued finish, and was not parkerized for WWII.
The blade ricasso is marked with SA for the Springfield Armory in Springfield Mass, the primary center for the manufacture of United States military firearms from 1777 until its closing in 1968. Below this is the Ordnance flaming bomb and date of manufacture 1919. The other side of the ricasso is marked with U.S. above serial number 1053770. The blade is in excellent condition, with a great finish with a little bit of runner marks and factory sharpening. The original grips are also quite good, still showing a good deal of the original factory "Ribbed" texture.
The scabbard is incorrect for this bayonet and is for the M1917 Enfield Rifle & Trench Gun Bayonet.
A very nice 16” WWI Era M1905 Springfield rifle bayonet by SA, complete with an incorrect scabbard! This would be perfect if you have an M1917 bayonet without a scabbard and an M1910 scabbard without a bayonet!
