Original U.S. WWI Corps of Engineers Camouflage Painted British-Made Mk. I Camouflage Doughboy Helmet with Liner & Chinstrap

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a camouflage-painted British-made Mk. I Steel "Doughboy" helmet with its original liner, marked on the front to the United States Army Engineers. It features a lovely original "trench art" camouflage paint on the exterior. It is a unique pattern of stripes of green, yellow, red, and blue. The front has a beautiful painted Engineer Castle depicted sitting in a field with a blue sky above it.

The shell is maker marked with a stamping on the underside of the rim that reads MS-105. The split rivets and heat lot number indicate that this helmet shell was produced in the United Kingdom. The paint is in good condition both inside and outside the helmet, though it is very worn.. Much of the original corked texture from the original paint can still be seen. The liner is intact but is no longer attached to the helmet, being held in place by a string tied between the two chinstrap bales. The oil cloth sweatband is in rough shape, and it is quite stiff now.

A great example of an authentic British Made WWI "Doughboy" helmet from the U.S. Engineers, with hand-painted camouflage, ready to display!
