Regular price $295.00

Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a gorgeous bubble-frame portrait of a soldier in the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Division, American Expeditionary Forces. His collar disc is partially visible, and it appears to read Company A, 7th Infantry Regiment. The 7th is credited with participation in the Aisne Defensive, the battle of Château-Thierry, the defense of the Champagne-Marne region and the attacks at Aisne-Marne, Meuse-Argonne, and Saint-Mihiel. The 7th also holds distinction as the only Army unit to fight alongside the Marines of the 4th Brigade which fought at Belleau Wood, one of the most prolific battles in Marine Corps history.

The framed portrait measures roughly 16 x 13”, and has a ring at the top on the back to hang the frame on the wall. The soldier’s uniform is “Double-Patched”, as he has a large 3rd Division insignia patch above a 3rd Army insignia patch, as the 3rd Division was part of the Army of Occupation which occupied Germany following the end of the war. The soldier is also wearing the unofficial Allied Victory ribbon, which many U.S. soldiers wore as they did not receive their victory medals until 1921.

This is a gorgeous double-patched portrait from World War I, a real scarcity to find in a period photo like this. A great example, ready for further research and display.
