Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is a great ephemera grouping to Corporal Russel V. Boos, who served with the Army Service Corps in France during the war. The grouping includes Boos’ insignia, some period passes he used while in France, his Victory Medal, wallet, shaving kit, some YMCA books, and an extremely scarce Army Service Corps collar disc!
The grouping includes:
- Boos’ WWI Victory Medal with a France bar, with its original ribbon with one star.
- Boos’ 40/8 American Legion Medal.
- A Great “sweetheart’s brooch” with a photo of Boos in it, a very unique piece that was costly to have made at the time.
- Boos’ Corporal Chevron and corresponding promotion announcement document, his two overseas chevrons, his honorable discharge chevron, and 12 buttons from his uniform.
- Boos’ US National Army Collar disc and EXTREMELY Scarce ASC Army Service Corps collar disc featuring a U.S. Shield over a wagon wheel.
- His wallet, empty.
- His bible that he seems to have taken from a nurse overseas who was working in a Base Hospital.
- Service Song book and YMCA “The Master’s Way” book.
- 1921 3rd Annual Armistice Day celebration ribbon.
- Membership cards for the Odd Fellow and Owls.
- Boos’ shaving kit with the handle and razor, only missing the box with spare razors.
- A small novelty smoking pipe.
- Some other small pieces of ephemera.
- Several documents from Boos’ service and life after service.
Russel Vernon Boos was born on June 19th, 1892 in Bettsville, Ohio. He was inducted into the draft on May 25th, 1918, being assigned to an Administrative Labor regiment. He went overseas on August 14th, 1918 and served with an Army Service Corps company throughout the end of the war. After the war, he remained in France assisting with the rebuilding through labor, not returning home until August 28th, 1919. Boos worked in the oil industry for many years, passing away on his birthday, June 19th, 1959, at the age of 67.
