Original U.S. WWI American Field Service Medal & Ribbon with Cap Badge & Uniform Button

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. The American Field Service (1914-1917) was a volunteer ambulance corps comprised mostly of college men from the US. The American Field Service (AFS) of nearly 2,500 operated ambulances in direct support of French combat divisions, transporting the wounded from the front lines to field hospitals. They were the first American citizens to serve in the First World War.

This is a phenomenal group of American Field Service insignia, including a gorgeous AFS Service Medal with its original ribbon, a very scarce pin-back American Field Service hat badge, and a uniform button.

The medal features an eagle & fighting cock back-to-back behind a flaming bomb with A for Ambulance above FIELD SERVICE. This is an extremely scarce medal that does not show up for sale often.

The cap badge is the last type used during World War I. It is in brown (paint) patinated copper with a horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

The button is French-made and a lovely addition. American Field Service items are incredibly difficult to source in all cases, but to find these together is just astounding. Comes ready for further research and display.
