Original U.S. WWI America Flag Etched British Mark I Brodie Helmet by James Dixon & Sons Ltd of Sheffield

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. When America was drawn into the European conflict it possessed no steel helmets of its own. They looked to other nations for ideas and selected the British helmet as the most suitable. Britain supplied about half a million helmets to the Americans before production of an American version was started in the U.S. This is a fantastic, genuine Great War British Mark I Brodie helmet complete with its original liner and custom etched trench art.

The shell is maker marked with a stamping on the underside of the rim that reads D/F indicating the helmet was made by James Dixon & Sons while the steel was rolled by Thomas Firth and Sons. The heat stamp and the split rivets on the chinstrap bales are a solid indication and a good reference point for identifying British made helmets for American use during the Great War.

The helmet features a fantastic etched American Flag design on the front. Under the Flag are the letters FA which may be the initials of the owner or stand for Field Artillery.

The paint is still retains its sandy grain texture. The interior of the helmet has most of the original paint present. The liner and chinstrap are present and in nice condition. The liner still retains the original top felt pad and paper label.

A wonderful totally original helmet shell with genuine original paint! Ready to display!
