Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely but heavily worn plaque made for Private First Class Russell Armstrong White, Headquarters Company, 367th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Division. The 92nd Division was made up of African-American draftees. All of the enlisted personnel and about four-fifths of the officers were African American, but the great majority of the staff and field grade, supply, artillery, engineer, and quartermaster officers were white.
The plaque has gone through a great deal of damage, being broken and cracked in several places, having been screwed onto a wooden board to keep it together, but the top piece is still loose. It measures 12” in diameter and depicts an Eagle with a shield bearing a Buffalo, with the name Russell A. White engraved at the bottom.
Also included are some ephemera pieces, a 1930-published history of Massachusetts Colored troops of the 3rd Battalion, 372nd Infantry, 93rd Division, a small pamphlet about the Negro school system, and a small pamphlet of Lieutenant Douglas L. T. Robinson and his father in France.
A lovely group of WWI African American related items. The plaque is a very rare piece despite the damage, and could be further restored. Ready for further research and display.
