Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of an 82nd Division WWI uniform. The best feature of the tunic is the accented 82nd Division patch located on the left shoulder. It is a square patch with stylized letter A’s in the national colors, red, white, and blue. Activated in 1917 during World War I, as a division, it was nicknamed the All American, because it was composed of draftee soldiers from all 48 states.
The private purchase uniform itself is in wonderful condition and exhibits minor wear and scattered moth nips. There is a tag on the interior for De Luxe in New York, a well known tailor of the time. What’s also very interesting about this uniform is its use of Vegetable Ivory buttons, which are brown plastic-like buttons used toward the end of the war. This was more than likely a uniform that was worn during the Occupation or on the way home. The left shoulder features a lovely AA “All Americans” insignia. The insignia itself is beautiful and still completely attached. The chevrons present are a single red discharge stripe on the left sleeve, and two inverted overseas chevrons on the lower left cuff denoting 12-18 months of overseas service, both sets still completely attached and in wonderful condition. There are Corporal chevrons on the right sleeve, and US & Train collar discs on the collar. Train could denote the 307th Ammunition Train, the 82nd Division Headquarters Train, or the 307th Supply Train.
The trench whistle is a great example with the chain hanging off of the left breast pocket button, with some oxidation on the whistle itself. The puttees are folded up together in the right bottom pocket. The breeches are in great shape as well and are matching, of the same private purchase material. A fantastic & gorgeous uniform group to Alvin York’s Division with tons of character.
