Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the Purple Heart Medal of Private John Henry Lowder, Company H, 129th Infantry Regiment, 33rd Division, who was wounded in action during World War I.

The medal is in good condition with the planchet free of any serious wear. The ribbon shows some fraying in spots but is still solid without any breaks. The medal appears to be a WWII Era issue. The medal is not numbered. The case comes with the original ribbon and pin.

John Henry Lowder was born on June 2nd, 1895 in Fulton, Illinois. He enlisted in the Illinois National Guard on September 18th, 1917 and was assigned to Co. H, 129th Infantry, 33rd Division. He went overseas on May 18th, 1918, seeing combat in Amiens, the Somme Offensive, the Verdun Sector, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and the Troyon sector. He returned stateside on December 24th, 1918 due to his wounds. He died in Canton, Illinois on January 9th, 1952.

His WWII Draft card shows that he had scars on all four fingers of his right hand, which would likely mean that he was wounded by shrapnel or a machine gun bullet in his hand.

A great engraved PH, ready for further research and display.
