  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic genuine Great War hand painted 2nd Infantry Division helmet. The best features of the helmet is the 2nd Infantry Division insignia on the front. The 2nd Infantry Division was organized on 26 October 1917, at Bourmont, Haute Marne, France. Twice during “The Great War” the Division was commanded by Marine Corps Generals, marking the only times in U.S. Military history when Marine Corps officers commanded an Army Division. The 2nd Infantry Division drew its first blood in the nightmare landscape of the Battle of Belleau Wood and contributed to shattering the four-year stalemate on the battlefield during the Chateau-Thierry campaign that followed. Having fought in every major U.S.engagement, the Indianhead Division emerged from World War I as the most decorated American Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. During the campaign, two Soldiers, six Marines and six Sailors from the Division were awarded the Medal of Honor.

The paint is somewhat worn, and definitely shows use, but it has a great look and the colors are still easily discernible. The interior of the helmet has little of the original paint present. The underside of the rim is stamped ZC 19 indicating it was produced in the United States, and can be seen on the underside of the skirt towards the front though it is difficult to read.

The solid rivets on the chin strap bales is another method of identifying the helmet as being American made. The liner and chinstrap is present and in worn, very delicate condition. The liner still retains the original top felt pad but is missing the paper label.

A wonderful totally original helmet with genuine original paint! Ready to display!
