Original U.S. WWI 2nd Division 9th Infantry Regiment Purple Heart & Victory Medal Grouping in Original Presentation Case to Canadian-Born Immigrant Herver Hotte

Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely 2nd Division grouping consisting of a WWII Era issue Purple Heart Medal engraved to Herver Hotte, and his WWI Victory Medal with 5 clasps. Hotte was born in St. Rose, Canada, and immigrated to the United States at a young age, serving with the Revenue Cutter Service before it was combined with the Life Saving Service to form the Coast Guard. Hotte served with the 9th Infantry Regiment, the “Manchu’s”, being wounded in action.
The grouping consists of Hotte’s Purple Heart Medal, which is a WWII issue, and is engraved with his name on the reverse. Also included is the original ribbon and pin, as well as a length of spare ribbon and the original presentation case. Also with the case is Hotte’s WWI Victory Medal with clasps for Aisne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector, which is the correct clasp-combination for the 2nd Division. The medal is in great condition without any serious issues.
Herver Alphonso Hotte was born on November 23rd, 1891 in St. Rose, Canada. He immigrated to the United States in 1901 and settled in the Newark, New Jersey area, serving with the Revenue Cutter Service for a year. He enlisted in the Regular Army on July 16th, 1917 and was assigned to Company K, 9th Infantry Regiment. He went overseas on September 17th, 1917 and was promoted to Corporal. He was wounded in action severely and was sent back stateside on November 23rd, 1918 for further treatment. He was awarded the Purple Heart and passed away on November 12th, 1953.
