  • Original Item: Only One Available. This powerful and dramatic WWI poster is the only known war poster designed by the newspaper correspondent and artist Edmund M. Ashe. An American Army Doughboy hurls a hand grenade as German soldiers with glistening bayonets look up from the protection of their trench. Smoke billows from something burning in the distance in a hellish war scene adding emphasis to the poster’s message to “Lend As They Fight – Buy War Bonds To Your UTMOST!”. The lower margin indicates “The W.F. Powers Co. Litho, N.Y.”.

The poster is in fair condition with some heavy tearing & possible water damage at the left side of the poster, but it is mostly neutralized now. There are some scattered tears along the right side as shown. Otherwise the poster has retained its color well. It measures 27 x 41”.

A great example of a scarce poster, ready to frame and display.
