Original Item: Only One Available. This powerful and dramatic WWI poster is the only known war poster designed by the newspaper correspondent and artist Edmund M. Ashe. An American Army doughboy hurls a hand grenade as German soldiers with glistening bayonets look up from the protection of their trench. Smoke billows from something burning in the distance in a hellish war scene adding emphasis to the poster’s message to “Lend As They Fight – Buy War Bonds To Your UTMOST!”. The lower margin indicates “The W.F. Powers Co. Litho, N.Y.”.
The poster is in fair condition with some heavy tearing & possible water damage at the left side of the poster, but it is mostly neutralized now. Otherwise the poster has retained its color well. It measures 27 x 41”.
A great example of a scarce poster, ready to frame and display.
