  • Original Item: Only One Available. The M1 helmet is a combat helmet that was used by the United States military from World War II until 1985, when it was succeeded by the PASGT helmet. For over forty years, the M1 was standard issue for the U.S. military. The M1 helmet has become an icon of the American military, with its design inspiring other militaries around the world.

This is a WWII manufactured M1 helmet shell by McCord, with a front seam and swivel bales, and a heat lot stamp of 902H denoting mid-to-late war manufacture.

This helmet is a fine WWII-manufactured and Vietnam War-issued example which appears to have been worn by a Brigadier General who attached a metal star to the front and removed some of the cover to display the star.

The liner is correct high pressure WWII issue and stamped with a W for the Westinghouse Electric Co Manufactured in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this "high pressure" manufactured M-1 helmet liner is identified by an embossed "W" in the crown (which is still Westinghouse's logo to this day). Westinghouse was the largest M-1 helmet liner producer and had two production divisions; Micarta and Bryant Electric.

This true, lovely service-worn US WWII M-1 helmet liner can be identified through the frontal eyelet hole. Other correct WW2 features include cotton herringbone twill (HBT) OD Green #3 cloth suspension. This HBT suspension is held tightly within the M-1 helmet liner by rivets and a series of triangular "A" washers. The three upper suspension bands are joined together with a correct string. This way the wearer could adjust the fit. The sweatband and chinstrap are entirely absent on this example.

It is equipped with a standard Reversible Camouflage cover, which is marked on the other side but not dated. It is held in place by the elastic band that retains the cover. There is a bit of material to the front removed for display of the Brigadier General’s star.

The included reversible camouflage cover is in very good service worn condition, complete with the elastic securing band. There is a bit of wear through around the edges, and overall fading, typical of a cover that saw actual service in the field.
These helmets have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years, especially genuine Vietnam War issue ones. Ready to add to your collection and display!
