Original Item: Only One Available. This helmet began its life as a very nice example of a circa 1944 Swivel Bale M1 Helmet. After the war, these helmets were put into storage, and were then reissued for use in the Korean War as well as the Vietnam war. This particular helmet is being offered in untouched original condition, and is just as it was found “out of the woodwork”. Most likely this helmet was brought home by a Marine serving in Vietnam.
The Helmet is a front seam swivel bale, made circa early-mod 1944. The helmet shell still exhibits its original WWII Factory applied corked paint. The original WWII sewn-on chinstraps are also intact, with blackened steel hardware. The helmet heat lot code, stamped inside the shell behind the visor is 1045B .
The liner is a 1950's production Korean War Era issue M1 helmet "high pressure" liner stamped with the Westinghouse Manufacturing Company logo and subcontractor MICARTA and dated 1954. The liner is complete with full suspension and sweatband, but is missing its nape strap (like many ACTUAL used helmets, this was removed). Interestingly, the helmet liner has an army rank painted on the front, which is not all too surprising since equipment made its way around the various services.
Covering the helmet shell is a very nice early Vietnam War Mitchell Pattern Reversible Camouflage Cover bearing a contract date of 1963. This example is in great shape, and fits the helmet perfectly, showing that it has been in place on this helmet for a very long time! The elastic tire band is a telltale sign of a USMC used Vietnam helmet, as seen in Stanley Kubrick’s Film Full Metal Jacket.
This is a lovely unmolested example that comes ready for display!
