Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. "Trench Art" has a long and storied history, originally arising from items made during the long periods of inactivity in the Trenches of WWI. The name still continues to be used for items such as this, a presentation mug made to commemorate an officer's service in Vietnam.
The mug's main body is made from a 105MM M14B1 artillery shell, which has has been reduced to 7 inches and length. It then had a 20MM DUMMY M501A1B1 cartridge attached with cross bars to serve as a handle to the mug. The entire exterior was then chrome plated, and had a brass shield attached to the front.
The shield is in the shape of the 388th Tactical Wing's Unit emblem, and reads:

During the Vietnam War, Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base was used for combat missions, and the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing was stationed there from 1966 until the end of the war in 1973. During their time there the base was even visited by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1967. Measures approximately 6 5/8" W x 7"H x 6 1/2" x 4 1/2"
