  • Original Item: Only One Available.  First developed in the WWII era, the Stecher Haxit Survival Knife was used by the British in Burma as part of the CBI Campaign. Also, according to Ben Baker, the Haxit was later inventoried by the CIA in Okinawa during the Vietnam War for issue to the CIA and Special forces handlers working with the South Vietnamese forces. We have seen examples made by various companies in England, Belgium, and even Solingen, Germany.

The overall length of this particular Haxit is approximately 13" with the blade measuring 7", though it may have been shortened slightly, to make it easier to wield. The main edges are slightly hollow ground, and still quite sharp. The wooden handle shows only light to moderate use. It seems the majority of the wear on this example is actually on the end of the blade, which also has an edge.

The body of the blade still shows the original manufacturer markings:

    THE STECHER HAXIT
    TAYLOR
    EYE (Eye Logo) WITNESS
    SHEFFIELD ENGLAND

It is also marked with U.S., British, and Canadian patent marks, as these were issued in all three countries:

    U.S. PAT No
    2813278
    CAN. PAT. No
    556833
    BR. PAT. No

The two blades are marked CUTTING EDGE and CHOPPING EDGE to indicate which side to use when performing the specified function.

The included scabbard does not look to be military issue, so we think it may be post war. It does not have a leg tie down as most military issued knives would. However research shows that there really was not any type of specific scabbard issued with these, and every maker had their own design. The scabbard has a lovely brown aged color, and is in very good condition, with all stitching intact. It has a large belt loop in the back, and a securing strap to go around the handle.

A very nice lightly used example, ready to add to your collection!
