  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very attractive original Vietnam War era U.S. Army General Officer’s white uniform visor cap, privately tailored in Saigon by Wa-To Tailor, a South Vietnamese civilian and military tailor. Dating to the early 1960s period, this is an especially interesting example of locally made officer’s uniform equipment associated with American service in Vietnam.

The cap is constructed in the white dress uniform style intended for wear by a General Officer and retains a very sharp, formal appearance.

The interior retains its original tailor’s label, which reads:

    WA-TO
    TAILLEUR TAILOR
    CIVIL et MILITAIRE
    Confection et sur commander
    Nettoyage a sec et stoppage
    Article de Bazar
    57½
    No. 40, Passage Eden Saigon

The label identifies Wa-To as a tailor serving both civilian and military clientele from No. 40, Passage Eden, Saigon. Local tailoring was extremely common among American officers serving in Southeast Asia, particularly for dress uniforms and other garments where officers wanted a better fit or needed items not readily available through normal supply channels.

    The cap is marked size:

    57 1/2

Condition is excellent overall, with the white material remaining clean and presentable and the cap retaining a strong shape. There is only light age and handling wear visible.

The South Vietnamese tailor label is what makes this example particularly interesting. Rather than being a standard stateside manufactured cap later worn overseas, it was made in Saigon itself, directly tying it to the military tailoring trade that developed around the growing American presence in Vietnam.

A very attractive and unusual Vietnam War era General Officer’s visor cap, retaining its original Wa-To Tailor of Saigon label and excellent overall presentation.
