The U.S. involvement of the war in Vietnam triggered the most tenacious anti-war movement in U.S. history, beginning with the start of the bombing of North Vietnam in 1964 and the introduction of combat troops the following year. Over the next decade, hundreds of thousands of young people become radicalized in a largely nonviolent, diverse and sometimes inchoate popular culture of war resistance, employing tactics ranging from comical street theater to industrial sabotage. Students, government officials, labor unions, church groups and middle class families increasingly opposed the war as it climaxed in 1968, forcing a gradual withdrawal of U.S. forces. Anti-war activities, particularly large-scale resistance to military conscription, forced an end U.S. combat operations in Vietnam and a suspension of the draft by January 1973.

This poster was one of the various methods displayed to show opposition to United States involvement in the Vietnam War. This is the American version and is not to be confused with the Australian version. The various versions display the same image and message, with minor variations to the uniforms and background color.

The poster features a lovely bright Ombré of light blue into a dark blue color. Ombré is the blending of one color hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from
light to dark. The message featured on the poster is:

The bottom of the poster has an image of soldiers wearing their helmets down low over their eyes and with beards. The closest soldier is running with a Browning machine gun while firing and the soldier in the distance has a bayoneted rifle. In the background two planes can be seen dropping bombs. All over the poster there are dozens of names, dates and branches written, perfect for research.

The condition is excellent with very minor color loss and wear/tear to the edges. The poster measures 21" x 27 ¾” and is ready to be mounted and framed.
