Original Items: Very Few Available. This is a nice selection of original U.S. Vietnam War era P64 M1 helmet liners, each retaining its wartime suspension system. These are genuine service used liners showing the kind of wear expected from military equipment that saw extensive issue and use during the Vietnam period.
The P64 suspension system was introduced in 1964 as an update to the earlier M1 helmet liner suspension. The new system used three adjustable web straps that allowed the wearer to set the liner at the proper height on the head. It also incorporated a revised neck band assembly consisting of a rectangular webbed section with three straps attaching to small buckles inside the liner.
The P64 was also the first M1 liner pattern to eliminate the earlier leather chinstrap.
Between 1964 and 1969, P64 liners were produced from laminated cotton duck. A second version made from laminated high strength nylon fabric was also produced between 1964 and 1974. The nylon liner provided improved ballistic protection and was slightly heavier than the cotton duck version.
We are offering a selection of service worn P64 liners from the Vietnam War era. Condition varies from example to example, as would be expected with original military surplus.
Each liner retains a wartime suspension. Some also retain nape straps, while others may have names, handwritten markings, or other evidence of individual issue and use.
The suspensions show varying degrees of wear. Some have small tears or weakened areas, while some sweatbands are heavily worn from use. A number of the liners also show minor warping or misshapen areas from age, storage, and long service.
These are not mint examples, but honest Vietnam War era liners with the wear and character collectors generally expect from field used equipment.
A good opportunity to complete an original Vietnam era M1 helmet with a genuine wartime P64 liner rather than a later replacement.
