Original Items. Only One Lot Available. This is a nice lot of Vietnam War era Navy flight gear including a heavily worn and busted SPH-2 helmet, two orange flight suits, a USN Life Vest with accessories including “Shark Repellent” Dated 1967, and more. The grouping is named to a LCDR E.L. Geronime, US Navy, for Lieutenant Commander Eugene L. Geronime. During his nearly 30-year career in carrier aviation, Geronime served two combat tours in Southeast Asia on the USS Oriskany, from which he flew the F8E Crusafer. He was also deployed on the USS Hornet, Ranger, Saratoga, Kitty Hawk, and Constellation, with 850 Carrier landings and flying 4,000 jet hours during his career.
The grouping includes:
- SPH-2 Helmet in white with visor retained. The lining is almost entirely torn away and the earphones are detached. The foam which holds everything together is flaking everywhere on the interior of the helmet. This helmet would be best emptied out and just used for display. The back has a tag which lists it as Size Large.
- Two orange flight suits without any insignia.
- Flight vest with Geronime’s name tag.
- USN Life vest dated 1967 with original accessories, including flashlight, signal flares, dye markers, and shark repellent.
- Navy Torso harness in original bag.
- Several other small pieces for use in carrier flight.
This is a fantastic grouping identified to Geronime, who still requires a good bit of research! Comes ready for further research and display.
