  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The Mobile Strike Force Command, or MIKE Force, was a key component of United States Army Special Forces in the Vietnam War. They served with indigenous soldiers selected and trained through the largely minority Civilian Irregular Defense Group (CIDG) and were led by American Special Forces and Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) personnel. MIKE Force was a force multiplier, operating what is today called a foreign internal defense mission.

This is an extremely scarce Vietnamese-made shirt to a pilot in the Airborne MIKE Force, II Corps Mobile Strike Force. The only name provided is Alex, but with how small this force was, this could be a fun research project. The shirt is all black with the pocket having a gorgeously embroidered insignia for the Airborne MIKE Force featuring a dragon in a shield.

The pocket on which the insignia sits is losing some of its stitching and could use some work to fix. The buttons on the shirt are all retained. This is an unbelievably scarce piece of Vietnam War history. Comes ready for further research and display.

1965 was a critical year in the course of the Vietnam War. A resurgent Communist Viet Cong (VC) joined with a growing number of North Vietnamese Army (NVA) units to launch a general offensive against the South Vietnamese Army and its American allies. The frequency and ferocity of the Communist attacks were largely responsible for accelerating the deployment of American conventional forces in 1965. The U.S. Army made its role as advisors to the South Vietnamese Army secondary and took on an increasingly greater role in ground combat operations against the Communist forces. U.S. Army Special Forces (SF) also adapted to these changing tactics. SF became more aggressive in finding and fixing the VC and NVA units and interdicting supply lines into South Vietnam. One long-lasting change that resulted from the 1965 VC offensive was the creation of the MIKE Force.
