Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Set. This is a really interesting and attractive set of oversized front & rear sights from an M16A1 rifle, dating to the Vietnam War. These were likely manufactured by a stateside depot for the purpose of displaying proper sighting and adjustment techniques in an overcrowded classroom setting. Not really intended to stand up to any type of rigorous use, these were usually disposed of once damaged or obsolete, so they are extremely rare.
The front sight has a functional spring-loaded button to release the sight in order to adjust it to one of four positions. The front sight measures 16 ½ x 11 ½ x 8” and has decal marking FKD 23-70-7 on the side and UP under an arrow on the top.
The rear sight is very heavy and has a functional flip-sight that has two positions mounted on a notched bar. The wheel is present but does not move in either direction more than a few cm. There is a decal marking FKD 23-71-7 on the side and R with and arrow over the wheel on the other side. The rear sight measures 19 x 15 x 13” including the pieces on the side. The rear sight is extremely heavy, weighing 21 pounds, and both pieces show heavy age and wear, so please use caution when handling them. They really weren’t meant to last more than a few years.
Given the codes of both pieces, these are pieces 70 and 71 of a set. FKD denotes it is a training device, as we’ve seen other such items with those markings.
This is a truly unique set that will fit well into any Vietnam War era collection. Comes ready for display.
