Original Item: Only One Available. This is an attractive example of a Locally Procured Vietnamese-Made Bush Hat (aka “Cowboy” Hat by GIs) with a very rare “Beer Can” Staff Sergeant rank pin to the front.. These were popular with U.S. and Army Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Forces all throughout the war. As the United States Military did not issue the now popular “Boonie Hat” until approximately 1967, many U.S. personnel acquired their own through local indigenous Vietnamese Tailor shops, street vendors, etc. The practice of buying Vietnamese-Made items privately for use by U.S. personnel continued to the end of U.S. Involvement in Vietnam.
This example is heavily worn, with the slouch having torn away from the side of the cap on one side. The camouflage pattern is Beo Gam. The Beer Can insignia is in great shape with just normal wear. The stitching patterns on the hat are really great and indicative of the times.
The sweatband on the interior is in worn shape with must of the stitching gone. A very nice example with a rare insignia, ready for further research and display.
