Original Item. Only One Available. This is an excellent example of a German-made Bowie fighting knife from the Vietnam War period. The knife was manufactured by Puma-werk (PumaWorks), a known producer of SS, SA, and NSKK daggers during the Pre-WWII period and after, and made a full line of private purchase items during WWII. The company was originally founded on a small scale in 1796, and later Nathanael Lauterjung officially opened a cutlery and knife making workshop in Solingen during 1855. After his death, the name was changed and registered as "Puma-Werk", to avoid confusion with the other Lauterjung-owned workshops in Solingen.
The knife is marked on one side:

Original Puma-Bowie
GENUINE-PUMASTER-STEEL-GERMANY
The 6 ½” blade is extremely sharp with some period sharpening. The hilt is staghorn affixed by three rivets. There is a hole for a wrist strap. The overall length is 10 ¾”.
The sheath is a great example with the PUMA logo embossed on the body. The sheath is constructed with stitching and 14 PUMA-embossed rivets. The securing strap is functional, and there is some verdigris on the brass fittings. The back of the sheath is stamped:
MADE IN GERMANY
DBGM 1865840
A great example, ready for further research and display.
