  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the overseas cap of General Melvin Zais’, a veteran of World War II and Vietnam. The cap bears his 3-star Lieutenant General’s rank and Para-glider patch. This overseas cap is visible in several photos of Zais which we have included here.

Melvis Zais was born on May 8th, 1916, in Fall River, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1937. He joined the U.S. Army prior to WWII and during the war, he commanded a battalion of the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment and led it on a night parachute assault on Southern France. He was in Vietnam in 1966 and again in 1968, when he commanded the 101st Airborne and later the XXIV Corps. He was assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington before commanding the 3rd Army. After his important assignment of Commanding General of the Third Army, he commanded all Allied Land Forces in Southern Europe at Headquarters in Izmir, Turkey in 1973. After his retirement in 1976, he lived in Beaufort, South Carolina. He died there in 1980.

His overseas cap is in phenomenal condition, with no issues to either side. On the interior, the letters M. ZAIS are monogrammed. There is a great maker’s stamp for Flight Ace manufacturing. Included is a small biography with a photograph of him wearing the cap. This and the high quality photos of him online prove this to be his overseas cap. This item is one of a kind, and will fit very well in any WWII/Vietnam/Parachute Collection. Don’t miss out!
