Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great Vietnam War-era Explosive Ordnance Disposal training projectile representing the Chinese RKG-3 PG-2 anti-tank grenade used by the Vietcong during the Vietnam War. The trainer is constructed primarily from wood with a metal pull-ring and fuze frame, making it a completely inert training and display piece. It measures approximately 14 inches long and retains nearly all of the paint and replicated markings applied during its service as an EOD instructional aid.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are NOT considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is totally inert. NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
During the Vietnam war, the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) received a lot of support and supplies from Communist China, which of course included weapons and ordnance. This is a Chinese Anti-Tank Parachute Stick grenade, sometimes referred to as the "type 50", which is a copy of the Russian RKG-3 Anti-Tank series of grenades.
The grenade has an odd strap-like lever (or "spoon") that covers the base of the handle and runs up each side of the handle. When the pin is pulled, the "spoon" falls away, and when the grenade is thrown a spring deploys a four-panelled drogue parachute. This parachute stabilizes the grenade in flight and ensures that the grenade strikes the target at a 90 degree angle, maximizing the effect of the shaped charge. Realistic accurately thrown ranges are within 15 to 25 meters. The lethality radius is within 2 meters from concussion and fragmentation. The casualty radius is within 20 meters and the danger space from fragmentation is within 50 meter.
This example is entirely wood with metal fittings and does not function. There are replicated markings to make it appear like a Chinese grenade.
The combination of the Vietnam War-era EOD context, RKG-3-pattern anti-tank grenade form, wooden construction, metal pull ring and fuze fittings, surviving paint, replicated markings, and approximately 14-inch overall length makes this an especially interesting example of American ordnance-recognition training material from the Vietnam War period.
