  • Original Item: Only One Available. Now this could be considered a rather rare brass variant to the few “WAR” pendants produced allegedly in country during the Vietnam War. These were mostly seen around the necks of SOG Team but eventually made their way to the regular ground troops. These were produced as a “gag” item in response to the Opposition to United States involvement in the Vietnam War or anti-Vietnam War movement.

The movement began with demonstrations in 1965 against the escalating role of the United States in the Vietnam War and grew into a broad social movement over the ensuing several years. This movement informed and helped shape the vigorous and polarizing debate, primarily in the United States, during the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s on how to end the Vietnam War.

Many in the peace movement within the United States were children, mothers, or anti-establishment youth. Opposition grew with participation by the African-American civil rights, second-wave feminist movements, Chicano Movements, and sectors of organized labor. Additional involvement came from many other groups, including educators, clergy, academics, journalists, lawyers, physicians such as Benjamin Spock, and military veterans.

In response to this, grunts being grunts, they found various ways to antagonize these individuals resulting in the creations of many items, like this pendant for example. The pendant itself measures approximately 2 ¼” x 2 ¼” and is attached to a fake gold alloy necklace. The pendant is tarnished but presents itself quite nicely.

Comes more than ready for further research and display.
