Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting 1969 U.S. Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class-associated wooden presentation or souvenir rifle, personalized as a gift from a member of Whiskey Company to “Vince and Patti.” Constructed almost entirely from wood, the rifle retains a metal barrel band, two sling swivels, an OD green sling, Marine Corps decals on both sides, and its original painted inscriptions. It measures approximately 42 inches long.

The rifle is dated in the stencil 1969. One side of the rifle is stenciled:

The Platoon Leaders Class was, and remains, a Marine Corps officer commissioning program for college students. Historical Marine Corps material describes PLC candidates undergoing summer training at Marine Corps Base Quantico, with candidates typically completing either two summer training periods or a combined course before receiving commissions after college graduation. A Marine Corps history of Quantico notes that approximately 1,200 PLC candidates attended the two-session program each summer, with additional candidates participating in the combined course.

The rifle has one metal barrel band with an attached sling swivel, and another swivel at the opposite end, with an attached OD green sling. The trainer measures roughly 42” long.

This piece is particularly interesting for the combination of its Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class association, Whiskey Company inscription, personalized dedication to Vince and Patti, 1969 date, wooden rifle form, and surviving OD green sling.
