Item Description
Original Items: One Set Only. The M68 kit was designed to familiarize personnel with the placement and arming of a real M18 Claymore directional mine. It comes with all the components of a real Claymore kit packed in an M7 bandoleer. The plastic M33 Inert AP Mine is the inert training and practice version of the M18 Claymore. However this example was made from a former live claymore mine, with the mine able to be opened to reveal the shrapnel inside. Some inert mines were green with a light blue band, while others were completely blue. This example just had a blue line painted on, with the green color being the original finish. It does not contain an explosive or pyrotechnic filler of any kind. It is packed in a Claymore bag with inert M10 simulated detonator cap wire with connectors, a FIRING DEVICE ELECTRICAL M57 "clacker" firing control, and a TEST SET ELECTRICAL M40 circuit testing kit, along with two posts of spare wire.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
This example is very nice, and has the look of a well-used piece of equipment. The mine itself was originally a live claymore so the green finish on this one is the original finish. It is embossed with BACK / M18A1 APERS MINE with INERT stamped on along with LOT LOP-PG-228-1 2-67 for a date of February 1967 on the back. It still retains the original fold out support legs as well as the wire connectors. There are some cracks and chipping on the body of the inert mine most likely from being dropped, and the “legs” are oxidized and a bit loose.
The M57 clacker appears to function, with heavy wear overall. The bag is in very fair condition with the fold out instruction label mostly intact. Some of the fabric is beginning to fray and strings are loose in places. Overall a very nice condition set of a rare and essential Vietnam Era training set. Ready to display!
The M18 Claymore is a directional anti-personnel mine used by the U.S. military. It was named after the large Scottish sword by its inventor; Norman A. MacLeod. Unlike a conventional land mine, the Claymore is command-detonated and directional, meaning it is fired by remote-control, or trip wire, shooting a pattern of metal balls into the kill zone like a shotgun. The Claymore fires steel balls out to about 100 meters within a 60° arc in front of the device. It is used primarily in ambushes and as an anti-infiltration device against enemy infantry; just perfect to place on a desktop to keep unwanted visitors out of your office.
