Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Set. This is an outstanding set of two certificates of appreciation, one in an original sleeve, issued by the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam to Jane Jarvis and Susan McGuire, two USO entertainers who provided outstanding contribution to the Morale and Welfare of the US and other free world military assistance forces in the Republic of Vietnam while touring the command, entertaining personnel of all services.
The first certificate to Jane Jarvis is dated September 30th, 1970 in Saigon, Vietnam, and is signed by Creighton W. Abrams, a United States Army general who commanded military operations in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1972. He was then Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1972 until his death in 1974. This certificate is loose and measures 10 x 12”. We were able to find a newspaper photo of Jane Jarvis holding the baby of a soldier.
The second certificate comes in the original plastic sleeve labeled HEADQUARTERS US MILITARY ASSISTANCE COMMAND VIETNAM. It is dated June 26th, 1968 in Saigon, Vietnam, named to Susan McGuire. This example is also signed by Creighton W. Abrams, but also has a signed photograph of Abrams in the opposite side of the sleeve. This example displays great open and standing upright! We couldn’t locate a photo of McGuire but did find a newspaper article mentioning her! Both articles will be printed and included with the set.
An outstanding set of USO Appreciation certificates! Ready for further research and display.
