Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Colonel Wesley E. Britting revived the Legion of Merit
AWARDED FOR ACTIONS DURING Vietnam War. The citation reads:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel Wesley E. Britting (AFSN: FR-14945), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 2 February 1967 to 13 February 1969. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Britting and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
Included in this flight grouping are the following items named to Colonel Britting:
- Gentex flying helmet HGU-2A in size large and named to "Col. Britting' in ink on the inside crown. The HGU-2A/P was introduced around 1961 as an improved version of the HGU-2/P. This helmet contains improved fitting pads that make the helmet more stable and an adjustable nape starp. The HGU-2A/P shell has three ventilation holes in the crown under the visor housing whose were manufactured from the factory only in the early configuration. The HGU-2A/P was utilized with MBU-5/P oxygen mask secured with straight T bayonets on relevant Helmet's receivers. Dual visors configuration of HGU-2A/P were also introduced both with one and three-pieces ramshorn housing assembly. This example comes complete with oxygen mask, single tinted visor and canvas padded storage bag with stenciled name tag that reads COL BRITTING.
- Original U.S. Vietnam War MA1 Type Flight Jacket with pilots wing name tag that reads W E Britting. Features multiple patches including a rare 4677th Defense Systems Evaluation Squadron patch. Jacket offered in excellent condition in a size large.
- Original U.S. Vietnam War Era USAF Colonel Dress Mess Formal Uniform Suit.
