Original U.S. USAF Air Force Flying Helmet Type HGU-55/P with Visor and Oxygen Mask

Original Item: Only One Available. Manufactured by Gentex this is a HGU-55/P pilot's flight Hard-shell helmet of grey plastic, the edges trimmed with padded grey leather and featuring external white metal housings either side for fitting the oxygen mask metal bayonet clips. Inside, the helmet is lined with black padded fabric that originally included padded ear telephones (absent). A chinstrap of black nylon is fitted, secured either side of the helmet via black-framed apertures. A smoked transparent one-piece visor is fitted held in place by grey nylon straps that are secured to the helmet by metal pop-studs, either side. An oxygen mask is attached via white metal bayonet fittings and comprises a mouth and nose mask of soft flexible grey rubber within a rigid plastic frame, with a green rubber flexible ribbed tube attached to the ‘mouth’. No size marking, appears to be a size medium. Offered in very good to excellent condition.A nearly identical helmet can be found in the Imperial War Museum collection in London as seen at this link.
