  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The 1902 Army Officer’s Saber has been and is still the current sword used by officers of the U.S. Army. The final design of the M1902 was the result of many years of study and experimentation by Henry V. Allien & Company, in collaboration with several army officers after they approached Mr. Allien privately and requested he develop a more effective saber for the US military. This is a very interesting variation of the 1902 with a brass clamshell guard and U.S. cutout. This could absolutely be another experimental variation of the 1902, but we have found no evidence to back this up.

The sword has a great clamshell guard similar to previous models, but retains the iconic 1902 grip. There is a shield engraved on the spine of the grip. The blade is tight on the hilt but the brass fittings are a small bit loose.

The blade of this example is not etched and only bears GERMANY on the ricasso. The spine is marked 3. The blade also has some oxidation spotting that could be fixed. A very interesting variation of the 1902 Sword, ready for further research and display.
