  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The Battle of Tippecanoe was fought on November 7, 1811, in Battle Ground, Indiana, between American forces led by then Governor William Henry Harrison of the Indiana Territory and tribal forces associated with Shawnee leader Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa (commonly known as "The Prophet"), leaders of a confederacy of various tribes who opposed European-American settlement of the American frontier. As tensions and violence increased, Governor Harrison marched with an army of about 1,000 men to attack the confederacy's headquarters at Prophetstown, near the confluence of the Tippecanoe River and the Wabash River.

This is a tremendous excavated sword which was dug at the Old Methodist Church (Now known as the Battle Ground United Methodist Church) in 1913, 102 years after the battle. There is a period tag on the blade of the sword which reads:

    Sword w/ Indian
    Decoration on 1913
    Blade found at
    Old Methodist
    Church near Tippi-
    Canoe Battelfield ID (Indiana)

The blade of the sword has a gorgeous Native American pattern painted on, which is still well-retained after being dug. This was a British pattern of 1804 Cutlass, which was likely used by a Native American and used through to the Battle of Tippecanoe. As Tecumseh’s Confederacy was allied with Britain, it is likely that this would have been supplied to them and used in the following years.

The sword is in fantastic condition with the hilt still very well-retained, although the guard is a bit loose. The patterning of the blade is just phenomenal, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece. The Battle of Tippecanoe is one of the most well-known Battles of the American Indian Wars, so don’t miss out on this tremendous piece of its history.

    Specifications:
