Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nicely woven Spanish American War 100 round ammo belt, for the new M1892 Krag-Jørgensen Service Rifle. The design is essentially an adaptation of the earlier belt for the .45-70 government cartridges used by the Springfield Trapdoor rifle. Instead of having 50 large bullet loops, the belt has 50 double loops, each holding two rounds of ammunition.
This example has been somewhat modified, as 4 of the double loops were cut off in a row on the left side. This very likely was for the installation of a holster or other item, as that area of the belt has grommets for the attachment of additional items. Also another two loops were sewn together, so the total capacity has been reduced to about 90 cartridges. Otherwise, the belt is in very good condition, with solid fabric.
The buckle is a C closure type and bears this stamping on the back:
ANSON MILLS, PAT. FEB. 1 1881
T.C. ORNDORFF SOLE MANF.
WORCHESTER MASS.
U.S.A.
The Adjoiner clip has a series of patent dates ranging from 1867-1894. All brass has aged patina. All woven cartridge loops are intact and in very good shape.. About 39 inches long. Has all the correct brass fittings. The belt is also company marked on the inside:
15 M Co. C. 23
We unfortunately cannot definitively identify this unit, as it could be from pretty much any State beginning with "M", and there were several in 1894.
The belt still retains the heavy brass keepers on either side, and overall is in very good shape. A very nice service modified Krag Ammo belt, ready to display with your Krag-Jørgensen rifle!
