Original Item. Only One Available. With a typical admixture of patriotic fervor and apprehension, residents of Connecticut joined their fellow Americans in the conflict with Spain in 1898. Sympathy for the Cuban cause and the quest for adventure spurred Connecticut men to enlist in all branches of the United States’ armed forces. Though none saw combat in 1898 (Massachusetts was the only New England state to furnish troops that saw action), many contributed to the defensive barrier hastily constructed on the northeastern coast of the United States. In subsequent years, Connecticut servicemen remained in uniform, advancing the new imperial endeavor.
This is an outstanding example of the scarce Connecticut Spanish-American War campaign medal, awarded to men serving specifically for this conflict. The medal has some heavy wear and light tearing in the ribbon, with some staining as well. The medal is rim-numbered 636 and is in good overall condition with a split brooch.
The Connecticut Campaign Medal was initially issued for the Spanish American War 1898 and later used to recognize those who served in the Boxer Rebellion.
