Original U.S. Spanish American War M1892 Krag Bayonet Scabbards Trench Art Candlesticks - Set of Two

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is a great example of early 20th century trench art, taking surplus / obsolete military items, and converting them into something useful as well as decorative. These started life as 1st pattern bayonet scabbards, for the U.S. M1892 bayonet, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. The scabbards are both steel, and are fitted with the 1st pattern belt hook, and have been nickel-plated to make them more decorative.

The two scabbards have been mounted with wire to oval wooden wall hangers, and both have decorative cast candlesticks inserted into the scabbard throat. These candlesticks both have short "blade" extensions that engage the metal throat in the scabbard, and are quite secure.

The backs of both have slots for mounting to the wall, and they measure approximately 19 x 5 inches.

A great way to add a little military flair to the dining room. Ready to hang on the wall and display!

The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
