  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is an extremely scarce offering, the first of its kind we have offered. This experimental khaki cartridge belt has 30 loops for .45-70 Cartridges, and four large pockets with thin leather straps designed to hold magazines for the M1885 Remington Lee Rifle, a bolt-action, detachable box magazine repeating rifle designed principally by James Paris Lee in the mid-1870s.

The belt is stamped on the rear N.J. denoting use by New Jersey, next to a faint stamp reading PAT. MAR. 19. 89. For a patent date of March 19th, 1889. This same patent date can be found stamped onto the brass end piece.  The belt also has a wide hanging hook, likely for the attachment of the bayonet.

The four leather straps are now heavily worn with some tearing and weakness. Please use caution when handling them.

This is the first example of this scarce belt we have offered. They are very difficult to find as they were short-lived. The US Navy purchased some Remington-Lees, but they were replaced by the Krag-Jørgensen by the U.S. Army in 1892.
