Original Item. Only One Available. This is an excellent Mills Web Ammunition belt for the Trapdoor Springfield rifle with a brass “SV” belt buckle worn by members of the Sons of Veterans of the Civil War. The Sons of Veterans of the Civil War was an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic. The SV not only assisted aging GAR veterans but also maintained an armed Militia that was a part of the Army Reserve in the same manner as other US militia units.
The belt is a lovely dark web material and has spaces for 50 .45-70 cartridges. The finish on the belt buckle is a bit worn but has a nice patina, and still comes off easily. The web belt is soft and pliable and in fine condition with no rips, holes or fraying. The back of the buckle is marked:
ANSON MILLS PAT. FEB. 1, 1881.
T.C. ORNDORFF SOLE MANF.
WORCESTER, MASS.
U.S.A.
A great Spanish American War belt worn by a veteran’s organization, ready for further research and display.
SUVCW, named initially the Sons of Veterans of the United States of America, was founded by Major Augustus P. Davis in November 1881 to ensure the preservation of principles of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and to provide assistance to veterans. It is based on the principles of Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty.
