  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely four draw  spotting telescope from the Spanish-American War era, and it definitely appears to be a rather upmarket example, with a sharkskin cover for the main barrel. There are also fittings on either end, which look like they originally took some type of shoulder strap or carry handle. The telescope is marked on the smallest barrel by the eye piece with the issue information:

    Signal Department U.S. Army

This is a FOUR DRAW telescope measuring 30 3/4" when fully extended including its Sun Shade, and just 8 1/2" when fully compressed. It has a protective sliding eyepiece lens cover, which looks to have some type of filter, which is VERY dark. It also has a cover for the objective lens, which has a small ring in the center. This would be perfect for a signals officer service in the field, in Cuba or elsewhere. Fully brass mounted with sharkskin and fabric barrel covering, this is a most attractive instrument that still gives a good image, though the lenses could use a good cleaning. There is what looks to be an asset tag number scratched into the sunshade, which we have not been able to identify.
