Original U.S. Spanish-American War Era .38 Cal “Single Loop” Mills Belt With M1892 Holster and M1902 Ammunition Belt Pouch With Original Wood Block - Marked “First Signal Corps N.G.N.Y.”

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is an excellent Mills Cavalry Web Ammunition Belt for the Krag Carbine used by American troops during the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection. Better yet, the belt still features a wonderful unit marked leather holster and a later leather revolver ammo pouch with the original wooden box insert still present. In 1892, the Army went to a .38 Caliber revolver and the holster was changed appropriately. In 1894, .30 Caliber Krag-Jorgensen Rifle was introduced and a new Mills double-looped cartridge belt was adopted. The new belt held 100 rounds of .30 caliber ammunition; the color of the belt was dark blue, and it was secured with a brass, Cshaped heavy wire clasp. A cavalry version of the belt had 12 additional loops, six over six, for .38 caliber revolver cartridges though this belt is not one of those examples.

The Model 1892 Holster was designed for the Colt .38 long revolver. Supple and in serviceable condition though the finish has extensive cracking. These are getting difficult to find in good condition and not totally dried out. All rivets and stitching are intact and sound. Faintly embossed U.S. on front, maker marking and date are not visible, however the reverse is marked with:

FIRST SIGNAL
CORPS N.G.N.Y.

The M1902 ammo pouch is in lovely condition with a lovely used appearance. There is no extensive damage present and the wooden block insert that secured the rounds in place is still present.

A lovely set that comes more than ready for further research and possibly a slight cleaning!
