Original Item. Only One Available. This is an excellent Mills style Web Ammunition belt for the Trapdoor Springfield rifle, custom-modified by a New York Officer, with an added NY belt buckle used by troops of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 47th, 65th, 69th, and 71st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiments during the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection. The belt has an added saber chape & hanger, and an M1892 Revolver holster, the knob for which has unfortunately broken off.
The belt itself is by Mills & Orndorff with an 1894 patent date, and has a NY belt buckle also by Mills & Orndorff with an 1881 patent date. The saber chape shows heavy wear to the leather, and still retains the period RIA-manufactured saber hanger. The leather is heavily cracking across but is still retained. As shown to the front of the belt, six half double loops have been added for the storage of 12 revolver cartridges, a great addition by the officer.
The M1892 revolver holster has always been on the belt, and the leather has stiffened to show that. The front of the flap is stamped for manufacture by Rock Island Arsenal, along with stamped unit marking C / 40. As mentioned, the securing knob for the holster has broken off due to rot, but the knob is still included with the belt and could be glued back on with some effort. The holster has very heavy wear overall.
A very rare belt to find complete like this, just damaged on the holster. Ready for display!
