Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a tremendous Captain’s uniform grouping belonging to the Captain of Company B, 6th U.S. Infantry, a great research opportunity as we couldn’t find the captain of this regiment. The uniform & hat are not named anywhere.
The group consists of a gorgeous Officer’s field uniform, very akin to the M1883 Sack Coat, with gorgeous bullion Captain’s shoulder boards and six Federal Eagle buttons to the front, some of which appear to have been moved from their original spots, and 3 smaller buttons on each cuff. All buttons are marked for Horstmann & Co. Philadelphia. The interior of the coat shows that the lining is in fantastic condition, without any serious damage. There is an original QM tag under the lining reading:

The jacket is in tremendous order, and the Captain’s shoulder boards have certainly been there since the War. The included trousers are entirely correct to the coat, with the small tightening buckle in the back still retained, marked PARIS as is standard. The buttons are proper and the trousers are in truly phenomenal condition for their age. There is very little mothing, and there are no markings we could find.
The M1883 Campaign hat is in rough battle-worn condition, with a 6th Infantry, Company B hat insignia on the side. There is heavy tearing in the material, especially along the top edges of the hat, with some of the tears having been repaired. Both sides retain their Snowflake vents, a very important characteristic of the M1883. The original hat band is retained as well, something that is often gone. The hat has heavy wear but retains its correct three rows of stitching on the brim. The sweatband is entirely absent, with heavy wear and remnants of stitching in its place. A very rough example that matches the uniform well.
This is a tremendous uniform grouping to a Captain of the 6th Infantry, ready for further research and display!
