Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nicely woven Spanish American War 100 round ammo belt, for the new M1892 Krag-Jørgensen Service Rifle. The design is essentially an adaptation of the earlier belt for the .45-70 government cartridges used by the Springfield Trapdoor rifle. Instead of having 50 large bullet loops, the belt has 50 double loops, each holding two rounds of ammunition.
This example originally had leather flaps covering every 5 loops, to keep the cartridges from coming out. It would have originally had ten flaps, but there are only four remaining, and only one of them is actually attached to the belt. The stitching on these were very weak, so the flaps fell one by one. The three that aren’t attached by stitching are still attached to the metal knobs.
The belt does not have a "buckle", but instead a large split loop, which is used to fasten the two ends of the belt together. The adjoiner clips are both marked PAT. MILLS & ORNDORFF and have a series of patent dates ranging from 1867-1894. All brass has aged patina. All woven cartridge loops are intact and in very good shape.
The belt still retains the heavy brass keepers on either side, and overall is in okay shape. A nice service modified Krag Ammo belt, ready to display with your Krag-Jørgensen rifle!
