Original Item: Only One Available. It wasn’t just the Europeans or the Japanese who utilized khaki, as so too did the American military, which first adopted khaki during the Spanish American War in 1898. Until that time the United States Army was outfitted with the M1883 fatigue blouse in blue. However, the large numbers of volunteers – as well as the fact that soldiers were falling prey to heat exhaustion and dehydration – forced the army to experiment with lighter-colored and lighter-weight materials. The United States thus adopted the “khaki cotton drill” and in 1903 the army authorized these as the official hot weather fatigue and field dress.
This M1895 U.S. Army tropical uniform top features the correct and original buttons. There is unfortunately a button that has come off the uniform, the right top shoulder flap button and it can be found in the right breast pocket if you wish to reattach it. The uniform shows signs of heavy use and wear, displaying minor sweat and dirt stains and has a small tear hole on the back towards the bottom. The stitching still holds everything tightly together and we can’t find signs of thread coming undone. Sadly there are no markings or tags visible anywhere on the uniform, so maker and size is unknown, but we will provide approximate measurements and they can be found towards the bottom of the page. The overall condition is incredible for being over 120 years old.
This is a must have in your SpanAm War collection! Comes ready for display!
