  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice single shot pocket percussion pistol, made circa 1850 for the U.S. Market, and marked very faintly to RICH'D SMITH / LONDON on the top of the barrel. There are however no British proofs on the pistol, or any other marking besides a small logo by the address marking, and serial number 643 on the bottom of the barrel. We believe that this is a U.S. made pistol, retailed by the U.S. agent of Richard Smith, but not actually made by him. It is also entirely possible that "Richard Smith of London" is just a trade name used by one of the many firearms outfitters in the United States at the time. The U.S. did not have any proof houses or other similar organizations for commercial civilian firearms.

The design of the pistol is very much like other single shot pocket pistols of the time, especially those designed and made by Ethan Allen with his partner and brother-in-law Charles Thurber. It features a 3 inch long half octagonal barrel in approximately .32" Caliber, which is definitely smooth bore, and features the standard curved shape and wooden bag grip. It shows a lovely aged and polished patina on the exterior, and really is a very nice little pistol. We checked the lock action, and it does have both a half and full cock position, but it will fire at half cock if the trigger is pulled hard.

A very nice pocket percussion pistol, ready to research and display!
